01 · Instant On-Device Naming

From Screenshot 2026-10-27… to a name you can find.

ScreenSort watches your screenshot folder. The moment a capture lands, it reads the pixels with Vision OCR, asks the on-device Apple Intelligence model what the capture is about, and renames the file in under a second.

  • 2 to 5 word lowercase slugs. Short, readable, and great in Spotlight and Finder search.
  • Optional date suffix. Add -YYYY-MM-DD to every name, or switch it off in Settings.
  • Collision protection. A second stripe-q3-invoice.png becomes stripe-q3-invoice-2.png. Nothing is ever overwritten.
  • Named once, never twice. ScreenSort tags each file it handles with an extended attribute, so a file you move later is never renamed again.
  • Works without Apple Intelligence. On Macs without it, names come from on-device Vision OCR alone.

02 · Drag Straight from the Banner

Share it before you even open Finder.

The floating banner at the top center of your screen is a real drag source. Grab the thumbnail and drop the renamed file into Slack, Mail, Messages, Linear, Cursor, Chrome or Finder.

  • Built on NSDraggingSource. The file you drop is the renamed PNG on disk, not a copy of pixels.
  • No focus stealing. The panel uses acceptsFirstMouse, so the first click starts a drag and the app you are working in stays in front.
  • Timer pauses while you drag. The 5 second auto-dismiss stops (PauseReason.dragging) until you let go.
  • Also from the menu bar. Every row in Recent Renames is draggable too.

03 · Smart Category Folders

Every capture lands where it belongs.

ScreenSort files each screenshot into one of six category subfolders inside your screenshot folder, created the first time they are needed. Rename any folder or add your own keywords in Settings. Routing is optional: switch it off and ScreenSort only renames, leaving files where macOS saved them.

On: each capture moves into the subfolder that matches its content.

05 · 100% On-Device Privacy

Your screenshots never leave your Mac.

Screenshots hold invoices, passwords, private chats and unreleased work. ScreenSort reads them with Apple's Foundation Models framework and Vision OCR, both running locally on your Mac. There is no server to send anything to.
